The Carbon Integrity Explorer is an initiative of the Centre for Environment and Integrity. It was made possible by a team of non-partisan public interest researchers and technologists who care about the integrity of the carbon offset market.
WhO WE ARE

The team who have made the Carbon Integrity Explorer possible have extensive experience and expertise in the design, development and evaluation of environmental markets and digital tools to assist with their operation and assessment.

Development and Funding

The team has donated significant time and resources to the Centre for Environment and Integrity to assist with the development of the Explorer. The Centre for Environment and Integrity thanks them for their time, expertise and extensive efforts.

The Centre for Environment and Integrity is seeking supporters to help further develop the Explorer.

Disclosure statement

The Centre for Environment and Integrity Pty Ltd does not work for, consult, receive funding from or hold shares in any of the proponents of human-induced regeneration projects that are included in the Explorer.

To the best of our knowledge, no individual who has helped develop the Explorer works for, consults, or receives funding from any of the non-government proponents of human-induced regeneration projects that are included in the Explorer. To the best of our knowledge, no individual holds shares in those project proponents whose projects have been given a low indicative risk rating.

Some of the individuals who have helped develop the Explorer regularly undertake consulting work for government agencies. Some of these government agencies have, or are likely to have, human-induced regeneration projects that are included in the Explorer.

This statement is true as of 13 March 2024 and will be checked for accuracy on a quarterly basis.

Carbon Integrity Explorer

The Carbon Integrity Explorer provides information about carbon offsets projects registered under the Australian Government’s carbon offset scheme. 

Registered projects can generate Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs). Each ACCU is supposed to represent 1 tonne of real and additional abatement of greenhouse gas emissions. 

The Carbon Integrity Explorer uses government datasets to provide indicative information on whether projects are likely to be generating real and additional abatement.   

The information contained in the Explorer is indicative only and should not be relied upon as a definitive measure of the extent to which projects have, or are likely to, generate real and additional abatement. The Explorer does not:·  

  • assess, or purport to provide information on, whether projects are complying with the legal requirements of the offset scheme;  
  • assess, or purport to provide information on, whether the ACCUs that have been, or are likely to be, issued to projects are valid or invalid; or
  • assess, or purport to provide information on, the actual or expected market value of any ACCUs.

The Carbon Integrity Explorer should not be relied on for the above purposes. 

The Centre for Environment and Integrity Pty Ltd does not suggest or imply that any proponent of any project has done anything unlawful or unethical or that ACCUs issued to any project are not legitimate or valid. The indicative risk rating is an indicative measure of the abatement risk associated with relevant projects and nothing else. 

The Centre for Environment and Integrity Pty Ltd does not have an Australian financial services licence and, in operating the Explorer, is not providing financial advice about ACCUs or any other financial product.
